Fresh Snow

What makes the world look better than a fresh snow fall?  Covers all the dead things from the cold of winter, and brightens even the cloudy days.  Here are a few pictures of my place after a fresh snow fall.

My front porch and the wind chime I bought at Pennie Muth's store, Abby bought the same thing, so somewhere in Indiana there's a matching wind chime.

My porch and front yard

"Mom, I"m cold"

My tree fort is falling out of the tree!

My trees and drive way

My beautiful house

My back yard there were black and white tiny birds jumping from tree to tree chirping.

You can see Petunia's "circle" of where her leash reaches LOL, my backyard and hill.

Can you believe I own trees?

It's so beautiful at my house!

"Mom hurry up with your pictures, I'm cold"

There is even snow on the trees.

My pretty rock covered in snow.  That's all folks!

These are a few of my Favorite things

I love this lamp.  It's the first thing I turn on in the evening.  It lights the living room while I read on the couch.  I found the shade and base on clearance 5 months before I even moved into the house.  It's so pretty and one of my favorite things.V sent me this for Valentines day 2010 and it was so perfect for what I was going through that day.  It sits in the living room now and is one of my favorite things as well as a constant reminder.

Here is another Valentines 2010 gift from Jill.  I had such a crappy day that Valentines (nothing to do w/guys!!) and Jill showed up at my door and it was just the sweetest thing and made my Valentines so special.  It's also my first plant for my house!

My lovely mixer.  I always thought one of these mixers sitting on the counter really made a kitchen complete.  I purchased this two years before I even got a house.  Now it proudly sits on my counter and it's SO convenient!  I whip up cakes and cookies so quickly now (not so good for the diet though).

I know, this is an obvious one, but these are two of my favorite things.  My Puppy Petunia, and my beautiful house.  I love cleaning it on weekends, dusting and vacuuming I enjoy now.  I love driving into my garage and protecting my Buick (another one of my favorite things) from all of the elements.  Oh and of course my property - it's so beautiful and perfect for me.  Two nights ago I was sitting silently in my living looking out the window watching the snow fall, and I felt like I was in a snow globe because all I could see were my snow covered trees, the setting sun, and the snow lightly falling.

These are just a few of my favorite things.

Tuesday walks

Took my puppy for a walk during lunch today. We went down by the Matanuska river. It was slick, so a little hard to walk down there, but lots of fun.

Watching LOST with Petunia

This is me and Petunia watching LOST

I can't believe this is the last season of LOST! I feel annoyed and sad. Annoyed b/c not ALL of the questiond will be answered, just what the producers deemed as "important questions". Oh well. Anyone out there have some questions that they don't think will be answered?

Moose Sunday morning

Petunia and I on our way to church ran into two moose across the road from us. A momma and a baby.

Knik River Bridge

I took Petunia for a walk on the frozen Knik river. It was all fun and games until she started growling at something in the woods LOL we hightailed it back to the car. It was such a beautiful day to be outside taking a hike.

Saturday Morning

Just lounging around this Saturday morning before I take off for the day. Petunia had surgery yesterday to find out why she never fully healed from being spayed. They found a stich that had been covered by her skin that was never fully able to heal. I'm glad they found it. She was at the vet all day Friday and I was worried about her and being very BLONDE all day. I almost had my first accident! I pulled out and I didnt see the car coming (at all!) they must've been in my blind spot, but thankfull I just missed them. *sigh*

Today Petunia and I are going hiking in Ekultna. I hope it's not too slushie out there because I really want to get a good walk in. More updates and pictures later!

How to deal with stress

Instructions
Step 1 Take a break! Stepping away for a few minutes gives you a chance to relax and regroup your thoughts, and improve your focus. During your break, try to do something that takes your mind off of what is causing the stress, like reading a magazine or taking a walk.

Step 2 Focus on your breathing! Take a deep breath...or five...or ten...however many it takes for your body to relax a little bit. You can also incorporate some kind of meditation exercise. Close your eyes and visualize yourself someplace that you enjoy, such as lounging on the beach. In other words, spend a little time daydreaming.

Step 3 Vent! It's never good to keep your emotions bottled up. Call a friend or family member and talk about the situation. Not only does it make you feel better to unload the day's drama, but it may help clear your head and give you some ideas on how to resolve what is causing the stress. Additionally, your confidant may be able to provide you with a few ideas. If no one is available to talk to, write it down in a journal or diary.

Step 4 Find something to laugh about! Laughter is healthy, contagious, and can improve your mood. If you can, find something about the stressful situation you can laugh about. Not only can it provide you with stress relief, but it may also ease your worries and make the situation seem less extreme. If you can't laugh about the situation, take a minute to laugh at something else; read comics, listen to a comedian, or find some good jokes.

Step 5 Take one thing at a time! One thing that can really increase your stress levels is the feeling of being overwhelmed. If you've got a lot on your plate, break it down into individual tasks, prioritize those tasks, and focus on them one at a time. If you've got tasks that can wait until tomorrow, let them wait until tomorrow. If you've got a lot of priority tasks that need to get done, ask someone to help you out.

Step 6 Don't worry about the little things or the stuff you can't control! When situations in your life cause stress, the last thing you want to do is add to the anxiety. So, pay no mind to the little things; don't cry over spilled milk, as they say. Similarly, don't worry about things you can't control. If there is nothing you can do to change a situation, then don't worry about it. Focus on what you can change.

Step 7 Take up a physical activity that you enjoy! Not only will engaging in a physical activity distract you from the situation, but it can also boost your energy and allow you to cool off. This is a great way to find some immediate stress relief and helps provide long term stress management. Engaging in physical activities on a regular basis can improve your health, attitude, and focus; all of which can help you to manage and handle stressful situations.

Step 8 Take care of yourself! Overall good health also makes it easier for you to handle a stressful situation when it comes your way. Physical fitness, healthy eating, and adequate sleep keep your body well nurtured and better equipped to handle stressful situations. You won't be likely to handle stress quite as well if you only got a couple hours of sleep last night and you are beginning to come out of that sugar and caffeine high.

Step 9 Make a list of the stressful things in your life and eliminate them! Every one of us has experienced stress at some point. However, just because it is a part of life doesn't mean that we have to suffer from it on a regular basis. Repeatedly placing ourselves into a situation that we know is stressful is unnecessary. So, try to avoid things that make you stressed. If a particular person stresses you out, talk to that person about it or don't visit with that person as much. If your job causes you high amounts of stress, talk to your supervisor about the work conditions and ways to alleviate it.

Step 10 Manage your time! Managing your time well helps you to avoid feeling overwhelmed and rushed by helping you determine what you have time for. A good way to manage your time would be to make a habit out of creating To-Do Lists and to sticking to them! Remember to make a schedule that is reasonable; don't overload yourself with tasks. Also, try not to schedule things back-to-back...include a little "me" time so that you can pamper and take care of yourself.

Step 11 Never wait until the last minute! Procrastination is a good way to pile on the stress. By waiting until the last minute, you put yourself in a position that requires you to rush; causing missed deadlines, insufficient preparation, and dissatisfaction with the final result. Always plan and do a little work ahead of time. Save those last minutes for the final touches.

Super Bowl 2010

I'm watching the pre-super bowl show (because I'm home sick and there's nothing else on TV) and all it is doing is making me want Doritos. So who are you all rooting for? I'm for the Saints, this being said I've never watched football before and not sure if I'll make it through the game today. I do hope to catch some advertisements though while watching Seinfeld on NBC.

SiCk-O

Fighting the winter cold with sleep and oldies. It hit Wednesday evening when I was still at work. I knew it was coming on, but was too tired and drained to do much to stop it. By Friday I sounded as bad as I felt and left work a couple hours early to go lay on my couch at home.

This month I'm supposed to be learning the guitar, but I'm not feeling very inspired. My fingers hurt when I hold the chord and my strumming is out of control. Plus my fingers arn't holding the strings down all of the way so the music sounds dull and flat. Happy winter days. Did I mention there's a full on snow blizzard going on outside? Good thing I don't mind living on canned salmon b/c that's all I have at the moment. What I wouldn't do for a NY bagel and some cold orange juice.

Happy February, or as Ellen says........"What the February??"
